The Operations Management Area at the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University will host the Seventh Conference on Integrated Risk Management (INTRIM) in Operations and Global Supply Chains in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from July 31st to August 1st, 2011. The conference will be co-sponsored by the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, the Management Science Research Center at the Desautels Faculty of Management, Group for Research in Decision Analysis (GERAD), a multi university research center located in Montreal, and the Boeing Center on Technology, Information and Manufacturing (BCTIM) at the Olin Business School of Washington University in St. Louis.

Now in its seventh year, the Integrated Risk Management in Operations and Global Supply Chain Management Conference was established by the Boeing Center for Technology, Information and Manufacture at Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis.  Over the years, the Conference has grown and has been co-branded by The University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse University, Singapore Management University and most recently McGill University.  The Seventh Mini-Conference on Integrated Risk Management in Operations and Global Supply Chain Management is intended to facilitate and stimulate interactions and knowledge sharing mostly among academic researchers, but with some selective industry speaker presence to discuss the interfaces and gaps between academia and industry, on important issues of risk management in SCM. The conference goes beyond stimulating research presentations to constructively challenge current practices and research paradigms, and it offers the opportunity for productive interactions among speakers and conference participants.

The integration of financial and economic risks in supply chain management has long been of interest to academic researchers and corporate practitioners. The conference is intended to facilitate innovative ideas in managing uncertainty and risk associated with financial and economic markets in global supply chains.

This two-day conference will feature a single track of presentations that combine technical presentations, industry practices, and discussions on relevant challenges and approaches in the topic area. There will be seven 90-minute sessions. Each session has two 30-minute presentations, followed by a discussant giving an overview of related research as well as facilitating a discussion with session participants. The format aims to stimulate discussion and interaction among speakers and participants. One of the conference sessions will be dedicated to poster presentations by six graduate students For the papers that will be submitted for INTRIM Conference, authors have the option of submitting them also for consideration for special issue of Production and Operations Management journal titled “Global Supply Chain Risk Management”.

Conference sponsors will cover the lodging expenses of the speakers and discussants for up to two nights. Other travel related expenses (air fare, taxi, local transportation, etc.) will not be included. Partial travel funding will be available to doctoral students. In particular, the conference sponsors will provide shared lodging for up to two nights for doctoral students who will be presenting in the poster sessions.
